Units #9500-9582 (DRF-44) were built by General Electric and delivered in 1995, on GE order number 1863. These units ride on Hi Adhesion trucks, and were delivered in the CP Rail Dual Flags paint scheme with solid white frame stripes. Units #9583-9599 (DRF-44) were delivered in 1997 on GE order number 1880. These units ride on Self Steering trucks, and were delivered in the CPR Beaver paint scheme with solid white frame stripes.

Several units in the #9500-9582 group had their hood sections repainted after stackfires, resulting in fire damage to the paint on the hood section. So far, units #9516, #9528, #9531, #9532, #9567, #9569 and #9574 had their hood sections repainted into the CPR Beaver scheme after such fire damages. Unit #9567 is presently back in the CP Rail Dual Flags paint scheme. In 1997, #9581 was the first unit to be completely repainted in the new CPR Beaver scheme, together with GP38-2 #3069. CP #9523 was involved in a wreck at Tappen, B.C. on March 14, 2001. It was rebuilt in 2002 and outshopped in full CPR Beaver paint, with red & white dashed frame stripes; the unit retained it's original Hi-Adhesion trucks.
